Origin portmanteau of guy and librarian

Ever since I was young I was a voracious reader. My parents took me to the library to support my habit and I was issued my first library card at age 5. In middle school I volunteered at my local public library one summer and also was the school librarian aide in eighth grade. Later in high school I started shelving children's picture books and ended college driving a bookmobile. The love for libraries remained. After a stint in politics and studying overseas I returned home to attend graduate school and started my professional career.
During graduate school I was struggling to find a job in libraries. My “aunt” Elena suggested I try to get a job overseas as a librarian at an international school. With my focus on children’s librarianship and previous experience in Taiwan, I was able to find a job at a small 100 student school an hour outside of Taipei. That began my career in earnest and was one of the best decisions I could have ever made.
The nickname guybrarian was bestowed on me by an uncle. The website started as a blog during graduate school and later hosted an anemic blog I maintained during my time as a school librarian overseas, hence the "Adventures" nod. That blog allowed me to give my first professional presentation at the Pennsylvania Library Association Conference in October 2010. When looking up the history of the word I was flattered to see this blog as a reference to its usage.
